Take out travel insurance online for a trip abroad

Are you planning to go on a trip soon? Remember to take out insurance to protect yourself whilst on holiday or staying abroad. Without it, even the slightest incident could result in significant costs and ruin your trip. Below, we explain why taking out travel insurance is strongly recommended so you can travel with complete peace of mind!

What is travel insurance?

Travel insurance is a policy that protects you against various unforeseen events that may arise whilst you are abroad. If you need travel health insurance, it covers, amongst other things, medical expenses, hospitalisation and repatriation assistance. But it also includes other forms of cover, such as luggage insurance and personal liability cover. Taking out this type of insurance allows you to travel with peace of mind, whatever the circumstances.

Why take out insurance when travelling abroad?

Travel insurance is recommended for all types of trips and all travellers: whether you’re going on holiday abroad, on a family holiday, on a round-the-world trip, on a business trip or to study abroad, it can be very useful.
At first glance, taking out insurance might seem unnecessary. You’ve already incurred significant costs buying your ticket and paying for your accommodation, and this involves additional expenditure. What’s more, you might think you don’t need it and tell yourself that you’re already adequately covered by your credit card insurance. Be careful, though: whilst some credit cards do offer good cover, this isn’t always the case – nothing beats travel insurance designed by specialists in international travel.
Yet insurance is the best way to protect yourself against a host of setbacks. It will enable you to cover the costs and organise your repatriation if your state of health requires it, or to cover your medical expenses in the event of illness or an accident abroad. Indeed, your standard health insurance does not cover all your medical costs on the other side of the world. Depending on the treatment required and the country, these costs can be very high.
You can take out travel insurance right up until the day before you set off and, in some cases and subject to certain conditions, even once you’re already there. However, we advise you to choose your insurance as soon as possible: this will give you time to compare the different levels of cover and select the most suitable policy, without having to make a rushed decision.
Please note: international travel insurance is optional in most destinations; however, it is compulsory in certain countries such as China, Algeria, Cuba and Russia. It must be submitted with your visa application for it to be approved.
